History of Magic

History of magicAnother silhouette piece and an illustration from Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. I chose this scene because it’s character based rather than an action piece and I wanted an opportunity to use this style to show some character relationships – Hermione’s ongoing frustrations at Harry and Ron not paying any attention in class.

I wanted to include objects and other details to add extra depth. So Scabbers makes an appearance (though he doesn’t have much of a role in this book), Hermione has plenty of books and has also covered much more parchment than the boys. There’s a spider (prior to making his escape) and also Harry’s father’s initials scratched onto Harry’s desk – Harry following in his father’s footsteps. I’m quite pleased with how the characters look – all three of them have fairly well defined looks that can be represented in silhouette. Hermione has her hair, as does Harry. Ron is described as being rather gangly, but I also gave him a worn shoe with the sole hanging off and a too-short hand-me-down jumper.
