Railhead : Cityscape

Railhead builds quite a fascinating sci-fi world. It’s a long way from Reeve’s Mortal Engines steampunk, it feels more like a classic, Asimov or Mobius, science fiction world with a future-Asia twist. Reading it, I got the impression of a vast scale and exotic journeys where anything can be encountered, and the train-focus worked with this perfectly. Rail travel has a wonderful literary and cultural heritage and Reeve merges this (intentionally or not) with the sentient ships familiar to readers of Iain M Banks’ Culture novels.
