Trolls and ogres are some of the most varied fantasy creatures in terms of artists’ and writers’ interpretations. Green skin or not green skin? Dumb as a rock or brutish inteligence? I’ve always quite liked The Hobbit interpretation of trolls, as well as being influenced by the wonderful Troll Book by Michael Berenstain which has been mine since primary school and is sadly out of print, but tells you everything you need to know about trolls, from their culture to their castles.
This was my first troll example – a forest troll – and not a very civilised sort. They get that way in the wilderness.
